PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE: NEEA'S STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS
For more than a decade, utilities – both public and private – as well as the Bonneville Power Administration and Energy Trust of Oregon have come together under the banner of NEEA to work to transform key, slow-moving markets. The leaders in energy efficiency started the conversation around regional savings more than a decade ago and now, with NEEA’s funding up for renewal in 2009, the organization and its board are having a broad and genuine conversation about NEEA’s unique role through its Strategic Planning Process.

SECTOR ROUND-UP
The Northwest Food Processors Association (NWFPA) held its yearly Executive Business Summit in May where it partnered with NEEA and the US Department of Energy (DOE) to facilitate discussions about the value of collaboration in addressing energy, technology, productivity, and other topics related to sustainability. Among the many issues discussed were the types of resources the food processing industry would require from partnering organizations to support them in achieving their goals and objectives.  [more]

BUILDING A GREEN GENERATION: SPOTLIGHT ON R.W. BECK
Since its inception, NEEA has worked with the best and the brightest contractors to help implement its regional initiatives and affect market change on a regional scale. Five years ago when NEEA decided to step into the brand new territory of distribution it turned to R.W. Beck, a Seattle-based contracting firm that has over 65 years experience in energy, water/wastewater and solid waste projects. Through this partnership, NEEA and R.W. Beck have developed methods projected to save (by conservative estimates) 150 to 275 average megawatts of energy in the Pacific Northwest through a program called the Distribution Efficiency Initiative.  [more]

E2 PERSPECTIVES
Last November Portland Commissioner Dan Saltzman stepped onto the podium at Chicago’s Greenbuild International Conference & Exposition and announced plans to introduce legislation that would move increased residential and commercial energy efficiency standards from a voluntary to a more regulated practice. This month's E2 Perspective looks at this legislation and has Sara Patton, executive director of the NW Energy Coalition and NEEA board member, give her perspective on the effects these types of mandates will have on the energy industry and its consumers.  [more]
